What is the Lilac Festival?

T Spokane Lilac Festival Military Day he Spokane Lilac Festival at its heart is a commemorative day to honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces. After the second world war, on August 31, 1949, Armed Forces day was declared the third Saturday in May.

Spokane and the armed forces have been intimately connected since the building of the Fairchild Air force Base. The Lilac Festival in Spokane ensures that the city pauses for a few hours to acknowledge the resiliency of our freedom and the dept we owe to our armed service members.

Combining the patriotism from the victories in WWII and the partnership with Fairchild Air Force Base, the Lilac Festival and Armed forces day have become synonymous.
